Work on the new Cascades Casino in North Bay, Ontario remains on hold following an order by the regional government to suspend all non-critical construction in the province.

Gateway Casinos and Entertainment director of communications and public affairs Rob Mitchell says work has stopped at the construction site in line with the instructions of the provincial government.

As part of that order only critical construction, such as industrial and infrastructure projects, were allowed to continue. Additionally, all casinos in the province have also temporarily suspended their operations.

“We stopped work at our North Bay site and we stopped work at all our sites that are under construction right now,” Mitchell said. “All of us are hoping this is resolved soon.”

The CAD$31m ($22m), 39,000 sq ft casino broke ground in May 2019, and is estimated to generate around 300 jobs once complete.
